Welcome to the Archaeoastronomy Database
The Archaeoastronomy Database facilitates the gathering of data relating to possible connections with the sky that may have been intended by ancient cultures in the material remains that have survived to this day. Through the production of informational media, publishing of observable astronomical event dates, and original research, the field of archaeoastronomy is being moved forward and expanded for wider participation so that the objective data complied might contribute to our accumulated knowledge and lead to valuable inferences and insights about the past.
To do this the Archaeoastronomy Database has collected entries of various sites with possible astronomical connections and how/when to record information to test the proposed possibilities. Along with original research, crowd-sourced investigations and observations are encouraged for contribution when participants are able to get to a site and record the data.
All of this information can be sorted and searched in the Archaeoastronomy Database Viewer to help build up and refine information about the sites and alignments, and especially to find observations participants can and would like to attempt to make and contribute.

Archaeoastronomy Database Viewer To get started, follow the link to the Archaeoastronomy Database Viewer to see the entries of sites and alignments. The link is to a view-only version of the data, but if you have a Google Account you can click File > Make a Copy in order to edit date and filter settings. You can also click HERE for a link that prompts an automatic copy creation. This viewer tool is currently in the form of a Google Spreadsheet that links to the information in the database. In addition to the data itself, it includes current stats on the data, links for submitting information/observations, and further instruction on use of the database.
